Just lately, I have come across quite a few people that appear to be suffering from Fybromyalgia – which causes tiredness, tension, pain and stiffness in the body. The muscles and the surrounding soft tissues are particularly affected by this.
According to sources of information, there is no cure for this condition and medication doesn’t appear to be very effective either. The mainstream products such as Paracetamol and Ibuprofen, are not helpful for most people.
With this in mind, it may require us to dig a bit deeper to determine what really causes the problem.
This condition is quite often triggered or made worse by trauma, illness and emotional stress, which I believe is true after hearing about people’s experiences of how it occurred.
Something else to take into consideration is this… A Spiritual person will indicate that it is emotional pain that has not yet been expressed, acknowledged or released.
I know someone that was suffering with mild symptoms of Fibromyalgia and when her husband passed away, the symptoms became ten times worse overnight – which is suggesting that it is an emotional response to a stressful situation.
Now, my wife is a very experienced physiotherapist and medical massage therapist. One day we were discussing this condition and she said to me. “That rocking technique that you do with your Shiatsu treatment, is actually what Fibromyalgia sufferers need.”
Now, I have the massage experience and technique, but when she put it together with the medical reason why it would be beneficial, then it all made sense.
And, coincidentally I had the opportunity to try this out about a week later…
A lady came up from London to see someone that I know and between us we made an appointment for her to come over for a treatment to find out if I could ease her condition, which the Doctor has diagnosed as Fybromyalgia.
I offered to do the Shiatsu Inspired Massage and got her to lie face down on the couch so that I could work on her back.
When I finished here, I asked her to turn over and this is what she said to me. “I can’t believe that I am now able to lie down on my back without any discomfort.”
She went on to tell me that she can’t even lie down in bed at night because of the pain, so she has to prop herself up on cushions to try and get comfortable. But after one short treatment from me, she was able to lie down on her back without feeling pain and discomfort.
Personally, I find that quite impressive that such an impact can be gained from a relatively short treatment. In her case, she would benefit greatly from regular treatments and would quite possibly be able to give up on medication.
My technique for a condition like this can be carried out with my Shiatsu Inspired Massage, or I can incorporate it into my Swedish Body Massage routine. It all depends on the clients preference.
These two treatments in particular work on physical, mental, spiritual and emotional levels. This explains why a lot of my female clients burst into tears half way through a Shiatsu treatment because it is working on different levels and women are considered to be generally more in tune with their emotions and body than men.
Many other therapies such as Aromatherapy, Reiki and Hypnotherapy are proven to be very useful as well because these allow the person to become more relaxed, which in turn helps them to deal with the condition better.
So if you are suffering from Fibromyalgia, it would surely be worth your while to check out some Holistic Therapies to see if you can benefit from this.
